A old '07 1500 chevy with low power 5.3 and a older 4 speed auto tranny isn't in the same category as todays new 1500 chevy 5.3 with 355 hp/383 torque with a 6 or 8 speed tranny.
I use the wifes new gen 1500 chevy 5.3 engine 355/383 3.42 gears and 6 speed tranny towing a 10k gvwr trailer. Her older '06 5.3 4l60e 3.42 gears simply couldn't handle the same trailer with any head wind or even small hills.
If a larger heavier trailer is in the future then get a 3/4 ton diesel...other wise the proper equipped new gen 1/2 ton will work fine. Buy the wrong 1/2 ton truck like so many seem to do and you won't be a happy camper.
