1/2 or 3/4 Ton? - Trying to decide.

A current 1/2 ton will tow that trailer with no problem up and down wherever you wish to go.

I tow a similar trailer with the 2017 Silverado 1500 5.3 8 spd 3:42.

I travel about 10 000 miles per year towing.

I'd love to see the guy load and unload that big boat on the Dodge.

SIZE MATTERS!!!!!!

If you are ready to buy a new truck, go 3/4 ton and don't look back, otherwise in a few years when you decide you want a bigger RV, you will need to upgrade the truck again... this is why I bought a dually for my truck camper.

I never thought I'd be the guy that has a nearly 10 year old truck with only 56k miles on it....

I don't know why the OP doesn't just go out and get an F650 at this point in the thread... ha, ha...

You already know the answer,,, If you buy the 1/2 ton,, Youll always kick yourself the minute you question that truck and think,, "Should have gotten the 3/4 ton!

Mitch, some people just have to learn the hard way. your 150 is a marginal truck to say the least. it's good for one thing, a sunday driver, real men drive real trucks

old guy, I'm an "old guy" too and have been towing for over 40 years, so I know what is overloaded and what isn't... I've towed overloaded 350 series trucks before back in the 80's when none of this tow rating stuff was even around...

Your comments are your opinion and you are entitled to that... To tell me my truck is "marginal to say the least" is just not true and you are entitled to say that as well, but in my case, since I drive this little truck every day, I think I have a bit more experience with my truck than you do...

Your comment about "real men drive real trucks" is just childish and basically tells me all I need to know about you.. :)

Yeah, that's true about the ERA of truck you have.. Towed the same #5000 TT with a 97 F150 with 3.55 gears and the 5.4 with the E4OD trans.. Did fine, but it sure was maxed out for sure on the grades..

Get the 13 F150 Eco and 6speed and tows that same TT with ease on the grades..

Heck, my 13 F150 has the same GVWR as my dad's 71 F250. I can out haul, tow and no mention of the ride comfort difference between the two... He still owns the 71 and it's a great old truck and lots of memories with our family with that old truck, but the only thing it has over my truck is the full float rear end..

Sure, a modern 35 series diesel would pull my trailer like it wasn't even there.. But I only tow 3000 miles at most a year and the rest of the time it's a daily driver so pick your poison and upgrade if that what works best for you.

But, to the other posters on this tread that make us little 1/2 ton folks feel like we are inferior to your big bad truck and to basically tell us to buy what you bought is what gets my goat the most... :)

I go back to my prior statement about the quote "you can't have enough truck".. Well... I think the same reasons you don't go to the 45+ series of trucks is why us little 15 series truck owners don't always feel the need to go to 25+ series trucks for the same reasons.. Wow.. What a concept.. :)

Anyway, drive what you want and be happy.. If you aren't happy with what you are driving GET SOMETHING ELSE that does make you happy.. :)
