Found out last night that a co-workers '15 Chevy's tranny let loose on him due to some kinda design flaw (at least that's how I took it). Has something like 160K miles. So he talks to the Chevy dealer and gets quoted $714.00/month for 84 months!!!!! New truck was $70,000.00. Granted it sounded loaded to the 9's, but Holy Smackaroonies......70 grand for a 1/2 ton????? Dealer was going to give him 6 grand for his. Cost to repair current tranny is 3500. Said he'll get 'er fixed and run it till she dies.

That dealer is all heart, he would give eight grand off on a straight sale so basically he wants paid two grand to take the old truck.

Your coworker must have a credit score of about 500 or something.I know a really good transmission guy who rebuilds those GM tranny's for less than $2000 beefing them up in the process, they're better than new when he's done.It's really hard to get a 1500 Silverado up to $60K, and that's for a loaded up LTZ on Chevy's truck builder app. Add to that depending on the trim and model they have $8500 in incentives available right now and 84 month financing at 0%. $70k is a fully loaded 1500. You can buy a nicely equipped 1500 for $50k. Maybe less with incentives and discounts. And at 160k mikes, it sound like the trans failed from use. Get it fixed and keep going.

And for the same price he could get a Ram Cummins Laramie

Probably nothing to do with this, however do a search and you will see that there is a shortage of pick up trucks nation wide. Go figure, the most popular vehicle in America and we don't have them. To order one now will take a really long time to get one.

I doubt there is a 1/2 ton Chevy out there that would cost $70k after incentives or rebates. If someone did pay that kind of money they have no negotiating skills.

shortage? I,m in north east ohio dealer has 150 fords an 175 chevys on the lot.

Maybe where you're at, but here in VA most lots are stuffed with them. The Governor put so many restrictions on car dealers that they have sold only a few for the last 8 weeks. Add that when you have 30+ million plus who just became unemployed nationwide,over a million here they think, new trucks are not a high priority.

In PA they have had the sales side of new car dealers closed for 8 weeks +, and even if you could buy one you can not get the paperwork done, tags/registration because notaries are not allowed to notarize anything. The lots are packed full.
