I find it hard to believe that random people are coming up and telling you your setup sucks. I camp a lot of nights in a year and have never been approached nor would have approached anyone. So you must be questioning it yourself. Maybe you are just inexperienced in towing a very large trailer. Have you towed anything this heavy before?
Most say you are OK but Toyota put the numbers on your truck of what it is capable of. There is no question you are over some of those figures so now it is up to you to believe whether you are safe or not. If you believe in Toyota and its figures then you should likely trade something.
Instead of the truck why not trade the trailer for something smaller. If you "inherited" it tells me that it isn't a trailer you were looking for.
