First, get it weighed.
Second, take the tow rating with a grain of salt. Toyota recently LOWERED most if not all of its tow ratings, some a lot. They were to there credit the FIRST manufacturer to adopt the SAE towing standards.
Which means that the previous ratings were pretty much useless, and advertising based. Look at a newer Toyota like yours to get a better idea of just what you tow rating should be.
For the record, Chevy and Ford were supposed to announce their new SAE ratings this year.
Chevy did, but quickly recalled them when Ford refused to follow suit until their new models are ready.
I believe that the Chevy HDs actually fared well, with some models getting a increase under the new standard, but the 1/2 tons all had their ratings reduced.
It proves what I have thought all along...That the 1/2 tons were getting crazy with their claims.
