I inherited my father's Beautiful 30' Blackstone TT,I have pulled it maybe a dozen times with my paid for 2007 Tundra which seem's to pull and brake it just fine.
That's what counts, actual experience pulling that trailer with that truck. Tell them no-it-alls to pound sand until they have actually done it rather than read about it.
Not that long ago most 3/4 tons had the same or less GVWR than these newer so called 1/2 tons. No body ever mocked someone for pulling a 34ft 10,000 lb trailer or fifth wheel because it was "called" a 3/4 ton.
I have actually towed up to 10k side by side/same trailer and load with a 2500 HD and a F-150 on the same roads. The 2500 goes no faster/corners no better nor brakes any better than the F-150 with either the heavy wood trailer without WD hitch/the 30 ft travel trailer with WD hitch/24 ft travel trailer without WD/20 ft travel trailer without WD and ATV trailer for 3 ATV's.... The same, no noticeable difference between those two trucks in towing those trailers....
If I was going bigger or hauling a truck camper, the HD 2500 would certainly be better but up to 10k,I don't see or feel a big difference actually doing it regardless of the so called numbers tag.
Good luck with your new rig and ignore those that spout off without the actual experience with that truck and trailer on the road or in the hills.
Remember, it's your experience doing it that counts not someone's opinion!
