If you camp off the grid a 12v unit will be well worth any additional cost (minimal in my experience...check out some of the trucker sites, they have all kinds of 12v stuff...).
If you camp with hook ups it really wont matter.
If you do dry camp, you will wan to count all your power use, and using an inverter vs 12 v will result in additional power loss...
