I tried reversing the O2 Kool. The shape of the blades allow it to cavitate and it didn't push the air well.
Endless Breeze may work better in reverse.
I used a PWM exactly like what Geewizard pointed out except the pot was attached to about 5" of wires.
Drilled a hole for the pot on the inside curve of the base and attached wires from the original speed switch to the PWM. That allows you to use a 12V power transformer with the original power connector or use a direct connect 12V cable.
By putting the PWM in the O2 Kool base, you won't be able to power it with D cells.
