I'm one of the power tuner guys. If you're smart about it, you can make tons of power and drive daily like I do, and fly up the mountain passes like you were falling off a cliff.
High powered diesels are not comparable to gas drag cars. They (the drag cars) make power with high compression, extreme cam specs, and port sizes that don't atomize well at part throttle or low rpm (like as in under-4000 rpm).
Diesels are a totally different game. They respond VERY strongly to fueling and boost and retain civil part throttle manners. They can be built to pretty extreme levels and still be driven to work and back.
If you ever line up at a stoplight in your new Ford/Chevy/Ram and some old hot rodder grampa in a very clean but innocent looking 20-year old Dodge dually leaves you behind... maybe you just met ol' Mister Burningman! But I'll always be glad to show and tell how it was done.
Diesel hot rodding.... way back when, I never thought I'd say those words together.
I think my truck is actually faster than my '55 Chevy hot rod!
This is fun stuff you guys.
Should you do it? Heck no!!! I've got an insane amount of money into a truck that's worth nowhere near what it cost. More advice: do not ever build show cars. Don't ask.
