I have to agree with those above, there is no reason you can't tune a modern diesel and maintain a reasonable amount of reliability.
I've tuned every diesel truck/suv I've owned since 1999. After driving those vehicles hard every day for a combined 600,000 miles, I can say that I have never had an engine related failure of any kind.
