13500/1500 air conditioner?

29 ft trailer comes w/13500 air. Do dealers upgrade for the same as factory pricing? will they even consider the option.
Not sure if the smaller unit will cool in 100+ degrees summer heat
thanks for advanced input..

    Hi

    15000/13500 =~ 11% larger.

I you really want "more cool" add a 2nd unit.

I would suggest the same, but most likely a 30' TT only has 30 amp service and that will not run 2 units.

  • My TT is only 26' long and a 13500 cant keep up when it's over 103 degrees. If there's any way to get the bigger unit then I would go for it.
  • I can tell you that my 32' TT with 2 slides needed more than a 13,500 AC here in Louisiana. When there was no shade and it was about 100 degrees, we just hoped we could keep it under about 85 even with the windows covered. I would definitely opt for the 15K AC even if there's some extra cost. Good luck.
  • I had a 30' fifth wheel with a 13.5K unit and when it was fairly new, I always thought it did fine, but the longer I owned it, the more I realized it was just wishful thinking. In the extreme heat of Summer, if you aren't in the shade, 13.5K is going to have a tough time keeping the trailer under 82* maybe even 85* depending on how well the trailer is insulated. I would definitely spend the extra money for 15K.

If you can't get it from the factory with a 15k, the dealer is probably going to ding you pretty good for a swap. Their biggest issue is that they are stuck with what is considered a used unit to sell deeply discounted because it is used. I would think best case is that the dealer would do the swap for the cost of the new unit and give you enough credit for the smaller unit to cover their labor. You could always just pay for the new unit and labor then sell the 13.5 privately which would probably be the most bang for the buck.
  • Agree with downtheroad. Had a 28' tt with a 13500 and couldn't stay cool in 95 degree weather.
  • 30 footer...100+ degrees in summer..definitely opt for the 15K A/C.

Min present rig was standard with 15K. All my previous rigs it was an option to up grade to 15K.
  • I would go with the 15k btu. Better to have the capacity and not use it than not to have it and need it.
    JMHO.
