It all boils down to the capacity of the tow vehicle as deterined by the manufacturer and stated in the manual. It really isn't something to guess about. The only guessing is that many of us don't really know for sure how much weight we are towing which is why I would only plan on towing a load about 80%-90% of the trucks capacity. So if the truck is rated to tow 7,500 lbs. I wouldn't want the load to be more than around 6,000 to 7,000 lbs. We tow a small 5th wheel(dry wt. of 5,200) quite well with an 07 half-ton Chevy with the 5.3 motor and 3.73 rear end.
