The first day spent on finishing I got the pieces stained with the last of the Golden Oak. Yep, I finally ran out. And I really had to push it to get the main pieces done. You've heard "can't get blood out of a turnip"? Well, I got to a point where you "can't get stain out of a rag".

Out of focus, but you get the idea.

But when it came to the drawers... well - they got to the party late. I looked through what we had on the shelf. Natural? Nope, that's reserved for something else. Ebony? Like the door catch mounts? Hmmm. What else. Gunstock? Hmmm. I had a small pint of Gunstock. That's just about the same thing as the final camper finish color.
You've heard "yellow and blue make green". Well I learned "Golden Oak and Maple tinted Poly make Gunstock".

Here's the small divider for the drawers, resting up against a finished area in the camper.

Oh sure, I could have run over to the store, and I will - since I need to have Golden Oak on hand anyway -maybe. But I need more steel wool. Anymore, I kind of like to keep my inventory at the hardware store. To the point where I even returned the unused wooden dowel for $2.97 instead of hanging on to it for future "whatevers".
Then I put a coat of maple tinted poly on the pieces, except the drawers which received a coat of clear poly, to help balance the look.
I forgot to take pictures.
Then on the next day, I ran steel wool over all the pieces.
I forgot to take pictures.
Then I filled the big air-compressor tank, wearing the ear protection; that thing is just about annoying! Connected the hose, put on the "air sweep" attachment and opened up the doors of the garage.
We were under a high wind warning; that's kind of like a normal thing around here. One more reason to have a smallish RV.
And I sprayed down the whole garage while the wind helped funnel dust, and dirt and steel wool droppings right out the down-wind door.
Everything was then closed up and I ran the tack cloth over everything and put on a second coat of maple tinted poly, even on the drawers this time. Of course some pieces will get covered on all sides so those will take two days per coat, if you know what I mean.
And the neighbor came by with a document he wrote to officials in an attempt to get the Congressional Medal of Honor awarded posthumously to the namesake of our town and a six pack of beer.
I forgot to take pictures.
But I just went out now and took these three.

Today I'll run through the whole "steel wool, clean up and third coat of poly" process again. Once those surfaces are finished it'll be time for primer on the rest.
