The other day, DS and I were working on his truck and we had moved Lil' Queeny over to the middle stall while his truck sat in the Queen's spot.
The tranny fluid was around the bottom of the bucket and got set over near Lil' Queenie's storage place by the new camper countertop resting against the shelf unit like any other sheet material might.
By the time I spotted the spill, just a little red tranny fluid had wicked up a half inch or so into the end of the wood grain. That wouldn't do. The countertop and tabletop (butcher block style glued strips of 3/4" thick aspen wood) was meant to get a natural stain and a thick poly coat, making it the color of the camper's trim (prairie wheat) in essence. Red wasn't in the cards.
So I placed the board and marked the cuts and cut the bad part out right where you see the curve (in actuality, I sat on it for awhile and by the time I fixed it the wicking had pulled into the board a few inches).
Personally, I would have chosen the reverse side for the exposed surface, but my choice had already been made for me by the universe. You just respond in other words, don't cry over spilt tranny fluid.
The table board itself and the finish work will all come later.
