So for the past several days, while Primer Grey Dave (PGD) has been messing around over in Finishes & Finishing, running all over town, talking big and acting all knowledgeable and stuff, leaving the REAL work for me to get done, I've been busting my mule here in "Exterior" trying to get Lil' Queeny ready for paint! But do I get any attention? NoOOOOoooo.
Do you remember how charming it was - back in January - when I thought the sanding had been mostly worked out on the benches and the floor? Oh what tangled webs we weave... No Wait, that's the wrong analogy.
But I will say, I'm glad PGD finally got me a better sander and some paper that will cut - for crying out loud. This little sander has been awesome!
I started on the passenger-side, with Lil' Queeny facing toward the overhead door. That gave me the best light for this side and Wow, what a difference it makes when you can see! I was mostly able to see those deeper siding-pattern depressions and get the edge of the sander down in deep enough to get a scuff. On the floor it was really hard to see those gloss reflections.
First going with about a 60 scratch, I progressed to a 100-150 - whatever it takes, and finished with a 220. I got from the wing, up to about three rows above the top of the window line.

Then it was time to spin the camper for work on the driver-side.
Now I'm here to tell you, you have NOT lived until you have swung Lil' Queeny around on the dance floor to the sounds of Wild Cherry playing their funky music 'til you die! Til you die? Yeah! Til You Die! Hey - that stupid tax relief commercial was on the classic rock station!
With Lil' Queeny's driver-side under full-light exam, I now began THAT work. This is the new utility wall; with the peeling paint from the staple slam. That was tedious, and because of so many edge openings, I used up more than usual sand paper because much would catch and tear sooner than normal. But like everything else, I learned a curve and moved ahead.
Incidentally, for both sides, I removed the sheet-metal fastening screws to get a better sanding. Then before driving them back in, I walked them over to the wire brush on the bench grinder and put a light scratch on their zinc plated heads - for better paint adhesion.
Again, sanding up to about three rows above the windows, this was all flat-footed on the floor with an "in-your-face" visual.

Between the two sides, that took two days (well, and some extra help for DW on her project).
And DW hasn't been sitting around painting her nails either! Major interior work fine-tuning the home living quarters. I'm really glad this time around I have a project to keep busy with ;)
Really, she doesn't expect nothing out of me. Great if I pitch in, but she's a go-getter. Here's just a touch of her handiwork. Three doors and four windows, plus baseboards are getting this treatment, plus fresh wall/ceiling paint!

Yes - of course, poly over. And she keeps me fed! Yes she's a keeper - but I don't say it that way. A little derogatory, don'cha' think?
