the red switch is for a little bitty 12V fan in the back of the fridge, and is visible from the outside access area.
okay. turns out either the outlet in my garage or the heavy extension cord I was using had the polarity reversed. plugged into a good outlet, and hit the reset button on the hot water heater, and it instantly started working. and man does it get the water hot.
I drained the FW tank, then refilled all the way up, and drained again to get it all flushed, and now filled. fills a lot better if the vent/overflow isn't plugged :)
