The 6.0 PSD made more power and is paired to an excellent transmission with closer ratios. But, plan on spending $5-8k to make really reliable.
I disagree on the 4R100, it was not match that was the problem , it was the cooling, I have had a 6.0 transmission cooler on my early 99 for the past 8 years, every since I started towing 10-13K fifth wheels , no problem with the transmission, but it has never been overheated, heat killed a lot of 4R100 's.
Root cause of the excess heat is a torque converter stall speed that is too high for that motor, combined with a lockup strategy that kept it unlocked too much. The same transmission behind the V10, which makes more HP, does not have the same heat problem. (missing cooler aside.... those trucks missing the extra cooler ran hot no matter what).
