1999 Catalina Coachman 299 TB

Hi. We are looking at a 1999 Catalina Coachman 299 TB which we just found. It is a little long for our driveway, but the price is right and it is in really good shape. I was wondering what people opinion pros and cons about it. I know it is an older camper, but it looks like it is in great shape. Thanks for any help you can give me
  • My 25 footer weighed about 4300 pounds. I would lean toward the higher number. Purchasing this camper is a decision you will have to make. If you are not in a hurry you might find something better later (or not). Maybe take one more week and scour the Internet for other possibilities. Best wishes either on this camper or finding another that you will be happy with.
  • The roof and ceiling look great. The owners are saying that they hit a tree with the front corner which has some dents in it and a crack in the seam. It has been fixed. In the bedroom closet the paper does seem a little warped but no smell, dampness (we went after a rain storm) and it could have just have been warped from the accident. It will just make our driveway (we only have 32' with no side yard- got love Long Island NY). The owners are also saying dry weight is 4300 lbs and when I looked it up it was 6800lbs. I haven't had time to work on that yet, but I will. The price is right for us we don't want to go into debt for it right now, thus why we are looking for a used camper. Thank you for all your input.
  • What do you mean by a little long for your driveway? If it means you will need to pay for storage instead of keeping it at home, keep looking.

On a trailer that old, it's all about condition. How's it look? How do the roof seams look? Dried out and crusty or maintained? Any discoloration on any interior panels? Any evidence of water inside any storage compartments? Fear the water leak!
  • If you like it, buy it! Check it out fully especially looking for moisture or water damage. If you are not sure take a friend who has experience with rv's
  • This is my thinking! We had a 1997 Catalina 25 footer. It was heavy and cost a fortune to pull. Personally I did not like the 8' width because it stressed me out on long trips (no margin for error...side to side). I bought a Starcraft AR One 18FB at a really good price. It is great, pulls great , easy on fuel and only 85" wide. I have experienced no sway at 70 mph without sway bars. Now, back to the Catalina; the one we had was a great camper, well laid out with a couch, full bed and full bath. Everything worked and wife loved it! So, in my opinion, if you like it, don't have a problem with the width, weight and towing stress (stress may not be a problem for you) then, it is a very good camper to consider buying. We enjoyed ours; just was not for me personally. If you are going to have payments and wish to consider the AR One, I can put you in touch with a great guy in Columbus, OH.....best prices in USA! Best wishes.
