Yes there is a " recreational vehicle exemption" which means not driving it solo :M
Years ago anyway you could also register a pickup as a passenger vehicle instead of commercial saving lots of cash on tags. Only drawback is nothing could be put in the box of the truck. Easy ticket for the officer. Cali has some doozies :W Entering the Cali border from Arizona it's always so nice to slow to 55 MPH!
