Actually that would be against the law. So the stations offer a discount for cash payment. Yes I know that's pretty much the same thing but congress failed to think of that little play on words otherwise known as a "loophole".

I could be wrong, but I believe gas stations can charge a "convenience fee" for purchases paid by credit card. The stipulation is that other form of payments need to be accepted (such as cash) and the fees must be assessed consistently on credit card payments. As an example, a $2.00 convenience fee to pay with plastic. The rules merchants must follow vary from MC/VS & AMX.
