When I had my trans serviced at my local shop this week I ask the cost to rebuild my trans and was told it would be close to 5k and better than new. Mine has 152k on it now and am hopping for a lot more before rebuild.
I am having a master rebuild kit including front and reverse band, additional clutches, all new solenoids, shift kit, valve body recalibration kit, upgraded torque converter and a couple of other upgrades for around $2000 includes remove and replace . Mine had 164,000 on the clock and one of the bands started getting worn. Come on down to Florida and I will take you to his shop when needed.
That's a very good price, but it is closer to what is charged up here for a GM turbo 400 or what ever it is called, not a GM guy and what we payed to have or Chrysler mini van redone. Sorry but based on price I don't think I want your shop working on mine. JMHO.
$2000 to rebuild a turbo 400! Somebody is raping somebody with prices like that! I get 727 torqflights rebuilt for 500 bucks a pop without converters.
Well Catfish, in '04 it cost the company I worked for $1600. for a GM reman. trans for the '97 express van I drove plus company shop time to install it. 50k later it was shot and it didn't tow anything. At 132k the company retired the van. Yes the old torque flights were cheap to work on and hard to destroy. The newer overdrive units are a very different story, any manufacture.
