:h :H :H
don't happen ever
take a truck any truck ,panic stop from any speed you want ,now do it with a trailer hooked on - same distance ? highly doubt it.
Trailer brakes are worse then useless if you believe and trust them to stop the trailer .
They are smaller then the brakes on a '60s econo box and are expected to stop trailers weighing 3 times more?
come on
now get them toasty like coming down a hill or stop and go freeway driving . and are they all perfectly adjusted?
When a mod blithely states 'trailer brakes stop the trailer' I get a chill. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer

Thanks everyone. Great info. I currently have a 2005 DRV 18,500 lb RV (loaded) and pull it with 2011 Ford 450 6.7. It pulls it fine but I am always conceded about stopping power. The 2006 Teton would be 20,000 loaded. I thought I would need a stronger truck at least for the stopping power.
Thanks Again!
Truck brakes stop the truck, trailer brakes stop both truck and trailer if you are ever pulled over at a weigh scale and checked over by a cveo.
Go by by manufacture payload over power, that has been a better option for me thru the years of hauling and towing rigs.

You guys really still think a 365HP V10 will pull slower than the 300HP PowerStroke in the F450/550? So much slower you'll have another birthday?
In case you haven't seen the specs, 365hp (V10) is more than 300hp (PSD).
Are you and I the only ones that get this Bryan?
For all the others, and for the billionth time. Torque is not power. :S
Yeah, my car has 450hp and my Cummins has about 400 on the tow tune, but that truck would stomp a mud hole in the car's @ss if they were both hooked up to a 20k trailer!
Something about 800+ft lbs vs 400ft lbs? I dunno.
And yes I do. I've had 2 different Ford V10s and they are 2nd gear wonders wound out pulling even 10 k at any altitude.
And you know this how if you have never hooked up a 20K trailer to your 450HP car? A 400 HP Hemi with 400 ft/lbs would waste a 300 HP LB7 Duramax in a sea level hill climb. Even though the Dmax has 120 ft/lbs more of torque. Same story with the LLY. And it has around 200 more ft/lbs of torque.
You might want to read #1. Then read it again. :) - Grit_dogNavigator II

- Cummins12V98Explorer IIICompare the torque. The gas pot will be left behind.
