- APTExplorerI think you'll be hitting payload quickly with a 4WD 8.1L Ave. It will be closer to 2000 pounds. 1200 pounds of TW, 400-600 pound quad, and family. I see your situation as going to 8.1L Ave gets lets you add the quad OR upgrade TT, not both.
- PAThwackerExplorerI agree same 6.0 4l80 combo in truck 2. I figure the Avalanche could up camper options, carry quad and tow current camper.
Once or twice per year fully loaded 5000lb htt, quad, and left with 588lbs for 3 passengers and dog. (Scary) but doable
Normal weekends are 3 bikes, canoe and firewood. - APTExplorerI would not replace your current 6.0L with another unless it was 2007+ 6-spd.
If the Ave works for you, go for it. The 8.1L with either axle will tow significantly better. I just think there are valid reasons why the Ave is worth less than comparable crew cab pickup. If your situation is not market typical, take advantage of it. - PAThwackerExplorer
- PAThwackerExplorerIt's not sold yet. It's for sale. I was considering just flipping the sub to Ava. Run the sub to auction and payoff difference. I could get any pickup but 10 year old joke 1/2 tons are selling around 14k at wholesale auction. 100k gas 3/4 16k
- BurbManExplorer IISo you decided to sell it instead of keeping it? Interesting the PO had airbags in the back, he must have been towing some weight.

Have you verified your quad will fit in the bed and can tow the trailer? The Ave has a very short bed, 4.5' I believe. You can open the tailgate but you may not be able to tow with the tailgate down. You can open the mid gate, but then you lose the rear seat. A 3/4 ton crew cab truck will have at least 6.5' bed, or 8'. You may want the 8' bed as the fuel tanks are much smaller with 6.5' bed.
This was my thoughts too. My last ATV wasn't a huge one by no means and took up my whole standard bed. - APTExplorerHave you verified your quad will fit in the bed and can tow the trailer? - PAThwackerExplorerI have a P3 in my sub. I also know its a lobbed sub. I enjoy 10 to 14mpg, hefty payload 2305lbs, luxury interior, 3 rows, and max 6500lb wet trailers.
I was just looking to either swap rings $2,500 in the sub or get a 4000lb increase in tow capacity move to a Big Block with little money out.
I know my quad would fit the inner box of the Avalanche, and current trailer would not exceed ratings.
Opens up local camping/quad options at nearby resorts and state boondock areas.
Enter second quad/bigger trailers: shtf
The other alternatives involve buying multiple trailers ie Dump trailers for $6500, min $1,500 multi place quad trailer and unable to tow semi decent toy haulers (6.0/4l80/3.73 slushbox).
I'd have to dump $20k into semi modern 6sp/6.0 3/4 to one ton SRW 8ft bed.
