My '03 GMX 4x4 X-cab SB w/6.0L and 3:43 carries my Lance just fine ... including up the Rockies. Great trucks ... only Timbrens and Anti-sway bar added. You have bigger engine (I agree, that's a great engine 8.1L) ...
My camper weighs about the same. You will feel it a bit more, as we went from 2400 to 3100 lbs as well. But truck should handle it well - will be more the driver at that level ... careful driving makes up for some added weight.
I agree in tires too - get the best "E" range in a brand you like. We've been running nothing but BFG KO E TA radials LT 265s for the life of this truck (211k miles and still running strong). Good luck ... M44
