2004 Arctic Fox 1140 ?

Hi All I'm going to look at a 2004 1140 is this camper just for a DRW truck I have a Ford f350 SRW with air bags and bumper stabilizers on the leaf springs, the GVW is 10,500.
Also is there any concerns I should look out for

  • Skip it unless your going dually. The 1140 is pretty much the same weight as the 1150 I have and I could not imagine putting it on a SRW truck. The camper is easily 5K pounds ready to camp and why my new truck is 14K GVW.
  • I'm going to try and go look at this camper

Thank you, It says on the Craig's list ad the there is delamination issues, he's selling it for $1500, (maybe that's a red flag)

    NADA is over $11,000

I think I may just go look at the 860 that's also listed

If you prefer Arctic Fox, go with a 2005+ as they are aluminum framed and a fixed minor leak would be cosmetic and not structural.

  • This is the opinion from an AF 1140 owner......don't try it with a SRW truck. The 1140 is one of the heaviest campers out there, and too much for a SRW truck. As far as construction, the AF is very well built. Back in the early 2000's they did have some issues with delamination. From what I can tell that problem area was addressed around 2008 or there abouts. Make sure to check for wall delmaination. Also pay attention around the front markers lights as the old style (incandescent) ones had a tendency to take in water. Once they got so much water inside it would work its way back thru the wire access hole and into the wall of the camper.
  • People do it... consensus is they're to heavy.

Read the threads on here, about the actual weights...after people fill them up. The things are heavy. Lot's of threads on here.
  • The truck sales guy that was selling me the F350 (DRW) related a customer that popped a hub off his SRW with his new Fox camper.

Those suckers are heavy dry weight is ~3500 lb. Truck weighs ~8000 lbs, plus you, plus water, plus.... I'd guess total around 12500 to 13000 lbs.

Honestly I question putting either 11-ft on an "older" 1-ton
  • They have had some delamination issues in the past. Check carefully for that. AFs are heavy, I think you will be unhappy on a SRW truck, but pleased with quality.
