Quote the rest of the nice lady's original post to see why both sides of the coin were presented.
Used to tow a large 5ver, now looking at a small TT. Big difference there and she may not be aware how much easier a little 24' TT is to stop than a "big 5ver."
Budget, worried about budget and how truck will hold up. Tells me that $2500 is not something shes growing on trees in the back yard.
Maybe a case for not spending that much money of she doesn't need to?
Mentioned dumping the CTD for a used 1/2 ton. Again, tells me she's not scared to pull a trailer (or shes completely off base, but likely the former and is an intelligent person who already knows how to pull a trailer.)
And she also asked for advice as to whether it was a good idea or not, so presumably want's to hear of others' experiences or recommendations for or against the idea. You know, so she can make an informed decision balancing her comfort with her budget.
AND, I commented on how nice exh brakes are to have and presented a less expensive option for an exhaust brake.
Yes, you're on the right side of this by confirming and recommending an exhaust brake, but you also know dang well that it's nowhere near a necessity in this situation but somehow are refusing to accept other's opinions on the matter.
I would not NEED nor would most experienced RVers but there is the confidence matter that would help her tremendously.
The idea is for to be confident that she is safe no matter the grade.
