$8k might be a fair price, but make sure it was taken care of and is leak free. Any camper that has not been cared for can turn into a huge (expensive) project very fast.
I would check out the roof and make sure the caulking has been tended too over the years. Missing caulking or large cracks that could allow water in should raise a red flag.
Also be sure to check around the bunk ends for soft areas and make sure they haven't been a source of water intrusion. The cargo area under the front bunk is a great place to look for water stains for that bunk.
FYI, I have a 2005 hybrid (Starcraft) that is leak free after all these years, so it is possible, just be diligent when you inspect.
