2006 5.4 f-250 CCLB mileage solo?

Just curious what kind of mileage your getting with the 5.4 solo?
Just did a 442.3 mile trip and only averaged 13.32 running 75 mph. Runs good, new plugs and coils and air filter as well.

A little more info. Going through the flint hills , very little wind, temperature in mid 30's ( plenty of cold dense air), majority 4 lane interstate.

Everyone knows you burn less fuel at a lower speed. But, no one is going to change their driving habits to get a little better MPG,
especially with the relatively cheap gas currently available.
$4+ per gallon will get most people's attention.
Nope, 4 dollar a gallon fuel won't slow me down. I tried driving 55 pulling the trailer once, never again it wasn’t worth it. I'll just complain more about it.:W
  • In all fairness the milage was only one trip on the 5.4 compared to several with the V-10 and there could be a difference between summer and winter blend fuels, wind conditions, and so many other factors in a uncontrolled test.

    Sounds about right.

That's the oddity of it. I also own a F-250 V-10 CCSB with a 5sp manual that's lower geared 3200 rpm at 75 compared with 2200 rpm on the 5.4 automatic. The V-10 usually gets between 13.57 to 13.75 solo same trip.

That's why the curiosity of what others got in mpg with their 5.4 solo. All milage is hand calculated.

The V10 may be running higher RPMs but isn't working as hard as the V8 at 75 mph. The extra weight of the long bed doesn't help either.

Years ago we use to look at the inches of vacuum being pulled. The higher the vacuum the lower the mileage. Gears were secondary to the issue.

  • My 2007 5.4 with 3:55 and auto trans running solo at 55/58 mph got 22mpg. Hand calculated.
Around town though it gets on average 10.5.

  • not bad I have a 2005 F150 4x4 355gears 88k on it, one owner and I get 15 on a road trip. it never has come close to what ford said was normal.but its never had a break down.

  • I've had about a dozen different 5.4s in pickups, none as big as a CCLB truck and most were 2wd.
I would change your statement to "I got 13.42mpg!" And leave the word "only" out of it. You ain't going to do any better. Those are thirsty engines, especially under the hood of a truck that size.
