The 2006 engine did not have the head gasket and fuel injection problems of the prior LB7 design and did not have the problem with the LMM engine which has puts raw fuel into the chamber to insure complete combustion but tended to also put fuel into the crankcase, diluting the motor oil.
Each new iteration has increase the horsepower and torque provided. The LML produces the most power and burns the cleanest and provides equivalent or better gas mileage than prior engines - helped by the Allison 6-speed transmission.
To ***** about emissions controls seems particulary crazy as I would expect RVer's as a group to enjoy clean air as opposed to smog even if air pollution can make for more dramatic sunsets.
