what kind of mileage do you get on a F250 with the 6.4 disel engine? Towing a 30 foot camper.

  • Wow. Ours must be special. We easily averaged 10 mpg hauling all the way to Montana and back. And to Utah and Arizona and back. Going to Florida, since it is flat most all the way there, we averaged 11.5. The only time we saw less than 10 was in the West Virginia mountains. Oh, and when we were off roading in Utah we got 8.5. On highway without the tt we get about 17.
  • 08 F450 with 4.30 rear towing 15K averaged 8.6 for over 54K miles at 2,000rpm (60-62mph).
  • I also got 8mpg towing a 24' 6,000lb travel trailer. The 6.4 sucks it down compared to any of the diesels of that generation, but it never struggled either. Even with H&S Tunes I didn't see a drastic improvement some others might have seen. Highway pre-delete I saw 14mpg deleted I saw maybe 16mpg if I was lucky.
  • I get 8 to 9 mpg pulling 15k 5th.

I seldom drive it without the 5th, but I think I am around 15 to 17 mpg.

    This is with a 4x4.
  • Never had a problem with my 6.4 but the fuel mileage was abysmal, Much better with the 6.7 I have now.
  • The 6.4L, in its short run, carved out a reputation for strong performance, hit-or-miss reliability, and (unfortunately) poor economy, particularly for a diesel.
  • Not to good at MPG unless deleted. Then you might get about 10 or 11. They sure can make oil though :W Do yourself a favor and just skip ahead to the the 6.7 PSD.

Mine pulling our 10k lbs TT got around 8 regardless of the terrain. On a 1300 mile trip pulling the TT the whole way we averaged 8.23 mpg. It was dismal. Pulled good when it wasn't in the shop
