Unfortunately I have also come to stand by this opinion quite strongly. My wife and I decided back in 2012 when we started driving full emissions equipped trucks that we wouldn't drive another diesel out of warrenty period. That's not to say you cant acquire a lot more trouble free miles on a truck without warrenty however testing that theory just isn't in our checque book! with how advance of technology and how utterly expensive it is to fix these items if they do happen is worth the monthly payment for peace of mind.
As for the CP4 I cant speak from personal experience but we ran a 2012 denali dually, and a 2015 GMC dually both deleted and compiled about 120,000 trouble free KM between those two trucks... not a lot I know, but the trucks were strong, and we were very happy with them. We only acquired about 14,000km on the 2015 before we traded in on the 2015 ram dually.
I HAVE however witnessed my father inlaws deleted 2015 GMC, with lift pump, running a stock HP tune grenade the CP4 at 12,000KM on the clock, crusing down the highway at 110km/h and it took out the entire fuel system. All said and done out the door it was a 16,000$ (Canadian) repair. He immediately did a CP3 conversion during the repair process. Because he was deleted warrenty wouldn't cover it, so we had our family friend do the work who owns a high end muscle car/fab shop. Quite frankly its down right scary just how much this **** costs to replace/fix
In the end I would STILL buy another duramax... simply because they are amazing trucks and I know the chances are very slim that you would have a complete failure... My wife and I really like the switch to the RAM we made, for more of a change of pace than anything really as we've owned GM almost exclusively. Is it a better engine? I suppose its paid its dues as its been around for a long time, yes it does have a CP3 which is also paid its dues but at the same time that dosent mean it wont fail. HOWEVER I know that a CP3 wont puke its guts into the fuel system if it does blow.
This is a

for becoming your own warranty station!
Why would anyone do deletes on a new generation truck that is under warranty? Chris
