Plain and simple "Pulling Power". Some of us can't get by with 400 lb/ft of torque so we have to learn to live with these new emissions gremlins or bite the bullet and run a delete tune (which many are doing for reliability sake)
Also keep in mind many of these issues we are talking about are "emissions" related which were mandated by the government. Nothing wrong with the motors themselves. All three are making pretty good motors these days. The last **** diesel motors IMO were the Ford 6.0/6.4's
