Actually, hot shotting is the ideal scenario to maximize brake life. Use the brakes lightly a couple times getting to the freeway, then 2-300 miles before a couple more uses at a lunch stop then another 2-300miles before a couple more uses at the end of the day. Say 6 stops for 500 miles.
Compare that to a 20 mile round trip that goes thru a dozen stop lights along with congestion on the freeway and you might be looking at 20-30 stops for 20 miles.
It's a lot of miles but 1 stop per 100 miles vs 1 stop per mile...not unexpected results.
