2011 Silverado 2500 trans cooler

Has anyone upgraded this or did you find it adequate for cooling when towing? I'm picking up a 2011 6.0 today that has the heavy tow package and HD cooler. My 2006 Yukon XL 2500 will stay as it's very handy but probably won't do much for towing anymore so won't be upgrading the cooler as planned.

New truck is practically new. 46k miles and one small scratch. HD trailer package, Z71, snow plow prep,Crew Cab 4x4. A lot of other options. I joined the old man club with the topper it has. Snowplow is included also. Difference from low book price and purchase price was $8k so I came out pretty good.
  • As part of the dash display my 2011 2500HD has a trans temp reading. I'd keep an eye on that for a while before deciding if an upgrade was necessary.
  • I would install a trans temp guage (if it doesn't already have one) and do nothing unless it gets too hot.
You can over-cool trans fluid - you want it to get over 140 degrees on a regulaar basis to burn off moisture.
  • While I have a Ford, I never thought much of factory coolers and a bigger, more efficient upgrade is inexpensive. I'd add more cooling capacity myself. Coolers are cheap compared to a new/rebuilt box.
