2012 Freightliner M2-112

I'm looking at a 2012 Freightliner M2-112 with the Detroit 13 Liter (DD13) rated at 505HP/1800TQ. Is anyone familiar with this engine? I'll be pulling a 20K fifth wheel camper with it. It seems that it will be plenty powerful enough for the mountains but how about fuel mileage? Anyone drive one?

  • Valves i believe (is that a overhead?) are good to 500,000,most intervals as longer(OC on mine is 40,000km) but cost more ,its a wash really.
    That M2is a awesome truck , class 8 power in a MDT
  • It's a fantastic truck. Even with the Allison its rated for 80,000 pounds combined. Fuel economy of the auto is pretty comparable to a Dodge 4500 with the 6.7L.

One thing to look into however is maintenance costs. PMs are pretty involved, such as periodic valve adjustments. It is not a driveway job. So just be aware that those costs are there, and will be higher than other comparable motors.
  • What transmission?
A real automatic like a allison will be down a bit compared to a 'automated 'manual transmission.
    I get 9.2-9.4 . automated 12 speed
