I've had a diesel (replacing one now) so I'm well aware of the torque. I just dont' tow enough to justify the cost increase, and never in any mountain area. All local, all 20 minute drives. So, no diesel please.

You die hard Diesel guy are missing one of the OP's most important post!
I too like the way my diesel pulls the hills of the West Coast, but the OP lives in Iowa, not a lot of hard hills there and he doesn't travel more than about 20 miles to go camping.
He will do fine with a 6.2 F350, with 3.73 even.
