When you said in your post "I applaud Sleepy with his investigations and his ability to sum up the facts. We all know, those that have been around a while, that Sleepy lacks a certain filter, for, well; Tact. But all the other plusses he provides, greatly overshadows that issue and I find his lack of tact, endearing."
I am honored. Thank you for your kind words.
The truth is... the TC Forum has had about five of these major sized rants againest manufacturers over the last 10 years. So I have aquired some experience in "investigating" the sources.
I personally tried to help 2 of the people resolve what I thought were their issues... silly me, I was too stupid to realize they didn't want a resalution. They wanted to rant and ruin a truck camper manufacturer.
I'll do all that I can to keep every manufacturer of truck campers in business and I'm very disappointed for having lost several over the last 5 years. Its in my best interest, my TC friends need TC's.
... and no... I don't own any stock in these companies. They are all privately owned including my favorite Lance Campers... which makes 5000 campers a year. People that assume that the companies issue stock exhibit their lack of knowledge about the TC industry
Our wants and needs are part of the problems with all RV's... we want to have bigger, fancier, better equipped campers... and lighter in weight so that we can haul them. There is a limit. (I absolutely hate Luan... thank goodness the manufacturers have found a replacement.)
Back to the big 5 manufacturer bashers.
1) **** actual tore his TC up piece by piece... a little every day and posted pictures as he did it. He was vicious... he thought he could ruin the manufacturer... instead he ruined his camper.
2) Another who claimed to be from from San Climente and installed equipment in ambalances for a living... He had a list of things that he didn't like about his Lance TC... I knew the people at Lance and talked with the complainer by phone. He acted like he was being wronged. He wouldn't take his camper to his dealer... and Lance Manufacturing was less than an hour from his actual location. He refused to take it there. The customer service manager contacted him many times by email, letter, and phone... offering to repair anything that needed it. The list of items grew day to day... one that had him in a red faced rant, "The valance around a cabover window was off center by 1/8" and that was totally unacceptable." Lance finally arranged to have his camper delivered to the factory where the went over his 48 item punch list... had him sign off... and shipped him his camper back. And washed their hands of him.
There is a common thread in these cases... and easy to spot. Many of our fellow TC owners on the forum recognize the clues.
I think that some people get in over their heads financally and are desperate to get out from under the debt of ownership of a recreational vehicle.
These same peole will brag about taking their familes out to a resturant and always getting at least one meal comp'ed by complaining. (I used to work with a guy like that... I couldn't stand him... he was a lier and thief,,, in front of his family... to get a meal without paying for it. No, the meal wasn't free, the resturant paid for it... along with all of the other customers.
When a company offers to make something right they are correct to do so... when a customer causes the company to fail... that hurts all of the other customers... past, present, and future.
In this case: Host offered to fix the problem (a problem that no other owner has reported)
Fred555 has eaten all of the icecream he wants out of the gallon container... 'till it made his belly hurt"... now he wants his money back so he can can get start the process all over.... when it comes time to pay the bill... here we go again.
This one has made my "Big 5"
