2013 Ram Rear Axle Ratio

I went to the local Ram dealer this morning to check out the 2013 Ram 2500 and 3500 diesels. They had two identical trucks. One was a 2500 and the other was a 3500. I was surprised to find both had 3.23 rear gears. This doesn't seam practical for a tow rig like these two should be. The salesman said they are for maximum fuel economy and with 800 lb ft of torque you won't notice the difference.

Is there anyone out there that has a 2013 Ram diesel with the 3.23 gears? Does it tow decent?

I'm sure the diesel would be a huge improvement over my nine year old gasser but I was thinking 3.55 or 3.73 vs my current 4.10.

Thoughts?
  • The 2500 was just over 60k and the 3500 was just under 60k. The 3500 had a package savings not offered on the 2500.
  • My '13 has 3.42s, pulls night and day better than my '11 did with 3.73s.

With the '13 models the only way to stray from the 3.42s is to get a 3500 if im remembering correctly.
  • I believe the 2500 will all have a 3.42 ratio. The 3500 3.42, 3.73 or 4.10 with the DRW at least. 3500 has lots of other nice features as far as the frame, front end. I would opt for the 3.73 myself but there are plenty of em towing with the 3.42 and smiling all the while :B
What is the price difference between the 2500 and 3500?
  • A miss-read or typo...

RAM trucks (2013 MY) come with choice or three ratios:

    3.42
    3.73
    4.10
