Not wanting to start a war, but there is more to a F-250 than a few pounds of payload difference. Compare the brakes for starters and decide which will stop your truck and camper quicker. Curious, how much more for a similarly equipped F-250? Yellow sticker payload is 3,496 pounds on my 2500HD regular cab 4x2.
i get where you are going with this, i really do. I think that my situation is a bit unique for a stock answer to fit, though. my payload should be less than 2000 pounds total with the camper that i have - and i'm including 500 pounds for the camper stuff and 500 pounds of passenger/truck options (which has some fudge built into it, for safety reasons.)
so if a f150 has 2400 pounds of payload, that is another 400 pounds of additional safety margin. I don't know about you, but i think that is sufficient for me. I plan on doing all the things that "should be done" as part of prepping the truck for a camper - like looking air bags or helper springs, installing a stable-load type block, making sure my tires are stout enough, etc.
i am limited in what i can purchase, in that i need to use the vehicle as a daily driver - with my commute a f250 would be impractical and likely we would make the choice not to repair and use the truck camper we have and instead wait till a better option presented itself. I am willing to make that call, if i need to. I am fishing for information so that i can make that call.
