The 6.4 actually makes torque at a very low RPM for a N/A v8. I believe they are made with the 66RFE transmission (not to be confused with 68RFE behind a Cummins) which is a 6 speed unit. Heck, it's the only gas motor I've ever seen where you can order them with multiple alternators (if you need them) from the factory.
True. Upon introduction, RAM engineers were bragging that the 6.4L makes it's peak tq 800 - 1000 RPM lower than the "other guys" which I can only assume is the Chevy/GM 6.0L gasser and the Ford 6.2L gasser.
Maybe someone can look up the power & tq curves and see...
And here it is from the SAE article linked above...
..."“An active runner intake system (helps to) provide that low-end torque that is required in a heavy-duty truck, but without sacrificing that high-end power,” Mets said. “If you look at the torque curves between this engine and our competition as well as the 5.7-L Hemi, the 6.4-L generates as much torque as the others but at 800 to 1000 rpm less."Another interesting fact:
"The big Hemi is mated to the 66RFE six-speed automatic transmission. It will have the same five-year, 100,000-mi (161,000-km) warranty as the Cummins turbodiesel. “That’s how confident we are in this engine,” said Mets."Ford's 6.2L gasser has a 60,000 mile warranty. That's a significant advantage to RAM and the 6.4L Hemi in my opinion...
