Buy a new after market air cleaner and keep it clean.
Use synthetic diesel oil and change every 10-12,000 miles. You can change the filter at 6,000 miles if you want.
Carry a spare fuel filter at all times.
Other wise is it much like a gas engine except you do not need to worry about spark plugs and a few other things.
