Maint costs are not a lot different....
2014 Cummins.
Air filter = as needed, probably about the same $ as any other. They're not special.
2 fuel filters, $100 online every 15k miles ish.
3 gal of oil and an oil filter, little over $50 if you buy the oil on sale.
Emissions is the one wild card, and out of warranty IF you have problems, it can get spendy.
But not enough to make me even consider an HD gasser for real towing duties.
Those numbers are about right. A pair of fuel filters runs about $90 on Amazon, Fleetguard LF16035 oil filter is $15 on Amazon, Shell Rotella T6 (full synthetic 5W40) is $23/gallon and sometimes Shell has a $5/gallon mail in rebate if you catch it.
$90
+ $15
+ $69
--------
$ 174 for a complete service
I do all my own work so this is just a straight cost thing for me. At 20,000 miles per year you'll do this service about every 9 months.
Don't bother switching between 15W40 in the summer and 5W40 in the winter. 5W40 is good in your engine year round and will be just fine.
There have been a few recalls on these trucks so make sure it's up to date. 2 biggies are the SCR system and the water pump. In both cases FCA will completely replace both assemblies at no charge.
One item you need to replace every 50,000 miles is the Crankcase Vent Filter. This sets on top of your valve cover and captures oil mist from the engine. Over time this will get saturated and if it plugs will cause excess pressure in the engine and seep oil from the pan gasket or main seals. This is easy to do in your garage and will only take 1 hour or less.
The Cummins 6.7 calls for valve lash adjustment at 150,000 miles. I'm at 123K on mine and I can hear them ticking a good bit so I'm planning to do mine soon. I haven't priced this out at a shop for comparison, but I'm pretty sure I'll just tackle this myself as well.
