2014 Ram 3500 First Milage Report.

First tow at 400 miles got 10.3 towing 36 ft. Big Horn Fifth wheel and 10.7 on return trip. First solo drive at 1500 miles got 20.3 mpg driving 75 and occasionally 80 mph. About 30 miles in Houston traffic and 150 miles on freeway. The return trip different highway driving primarily 65mph I got 19.9mpg.

These are hand calculated, not truck computer. Really surprised at the return trip milage. I expected it to be better because of the slower speeds. The truck computer showed 21.7 mpg going and 23.5 on the return trip.
I expect to get a pretty good improvement in mileage as the truck breaks in. My 2005 Ram 2500 kept improving up to about 30, 000 miles. It gained about almost 2 mpg after break in.

  • Impressive fuel economy... I took a 200 mile trip yesterday and ran into some serious rain and even had a regen occur and made 19.4 mpg.

You are getting pretty close to what my 2014 Ram is getting 19.4 was the best empty so far, but have only done one road trip empty. Got 16.1 around town last tank, got about 10.5 average towing 13K fifth wheel.
  • The good news is the mileage will only get better as the engine gets "broke" in.

We got better and better mileage until it leveled off at 80,000 miles!

Enjoy the new truck. It is a good one.
