2014 Ram 3500

Hi,

Is there any known or big issues with this year Ram. I am looking at a Tradesman dually with the Cummins and auto trans.

Thanks
  • 85k on my 2014 Big Horn. Bought at 28k miles. Been very reliable. Have done the routine maintenance including the crankcase vent replacement and egr valve cleaning at 67k. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.
  • The only thing you really need to be aware of is how awesome they are and the main problem is that they last forever and don't break down, so you will be roped into towing all your buddy's Ford's when they break.

Yep. Mine cracked on our trip to Wyoming this summer. Also the recalls for the track bar, seat belts, and SCR system were done as well.

My truck is at 117K miles and is technically 4 years old right now. I bought it in 2015 with 72K miles and have no warranty. Aside from the recalls there have been mostly routine things I've had to replace. I did the brakes at 109K miles and as best I could tell they were original. I was able to turn the rotors and buy new pads. When I did the brakes I found the rear hub seals were leaking and replaced those so that's a bit out of the ordinary. From there it's just been routine oil changes and fuel filters.

Oh, for fuel filters, get them on Amazon. You can get a 2-pack for $80. At the dealer you'll pay $85 EACH!!!

I love my truck. It pulls my 14K 5er very well. Plenty of power and the OEM exhaust brake is fantastic. I went through the Tetons and yellowstone this summer and felt the truck was up to every single hill I through at it.

If it has the AISIN trans that is a bonus.
  • There are several recalls for the 2014's other than the track bar welds that were mainly reprograms for seat belt/airbag sensors. I just had the DPF recall done on mine. I really like my 2014 dually and use it mainly to pull the trailer. It only has 15k miles on it so I hope to keep it for a while. The one thing I don't like is the 6 month oil change requirement. I am having to change oil every 2,500 miles or less to keep my warranty valid. If I had to do it again I would buy another Ram. Had a super duty, never again. Had a GM 3/4 ton, not bad but I like the Cummins engine much better and the truck is very comfortable on trips. If you found a 2014 that fits your needs I say go for it!
  • 64K on my 2014. Only issue I had was the dome light flickering intermittently, but that was replaced at 10k under warranty.
  • Having the 2014 3500 ,six recalls to date still need the T05 done , the SCR replacement. Have had some DEF warnings ,hopefully the T05 recall will cure those. Overall no big issues ,mileage is okay 9-12 towing 18-21 empty, which seems the norm for the 6.7 Cummings .
  • I believe there was a recall on that model year for the welds on one or more of the front suspension mounts, and a few other more minor recalls that you'd want to make sure have been handled. Water pumps are failure prone but a cheap fix as long as you have the parts available. Beyond that I'm not aware of anything widespread.
