2014 Salt damaged Fantastic Fan repair

I mentioned in my on-going trip report that....

(20) One of our TC's Fantastic Fans had a lot of rust on the motor and electrical contacts... caused by salt spray from a couple of hundred accumulated nights on the Fla panhandle beachs... but most of the damage was done in less than 2 months on the LA and Texas beaches.

I contacted Fantastic Fan at their nrw owners in Elkhart, Id. I bought some new parts... The nice lasy at Fantastic Fan sent me the wrong ones... then quickly sent me more... wrong again....then they shipped more new parts again. No extra charge... didn't want me to return the extra parts.

I cleaned and overhauled the Fantastic Fan in our bathroom to a "new" condition.... with the parts I'd ordered.

I liked the upgraded model 6150 we had over the dinette so much that I had Bob Beretta, at the factory in Imlay Michigan change out the screamer fan in the TC's bath 10 years ago to a matching mate.... we run it 98% of the time... it pulls air through the open windows or the filterd air vent under the fridge

I took the spare parts plus parts that I'd accumulated over the years and... built and installed a complete Fantastic Fan model 6150 into Brian Towells (btgraphics) Lance 1191 Truck Camper... Free of Charge of course.

His Fantastic Fan has: rain sensor, thermostatic motor lift for the dome, thermostat fan. Reversable in or out fan, multispeed fan, everything you can dream of... We hope that he is enjoying his gift FF as much as we enjoy ours...

This picture is Brians freebee installed....

Fantastic always have had a quick response - great company... You are always hearing someone getting a replacement fan at no cost... Lifetime guarantee and no questions asked...

  • The insulated, smoky dome down... keeping the airconditioned air in the camper.... and the heat out while I put the rest of the fan back together and wireing it back up.

Yes... wiring up... my old arms are still tired from workin on those three wires overhead....

the lift arm on the roof is an old one that has rust in the slide area.... it got trashed

  • A better look at the rain sensor.... NICE! trouble free.... the fantastic fan will function 24/7, with very low power draw.... one of the best all around things about our TC.

  • Salt damage to the original lift arm...

I don't love the effect of months staying dirrectly on the beach as much as I did up to August of 2014. Would you?.... Is it time for you to make an inspection?

  • I cleaned the hatch from the roof and from inside the bathroom and replaced the lift arm.... I also replaced the rain sensor (the strip in the lower right corner) One drop of rain hitting that strip activates the small lift motor and closes the dome....

  • This is the original surround after I had it outside the camper getting it ready to overhaul.... first thing... I gave it a good cleaning

Oops!.... it is sitting on my newly refurbished dinette cushions. Janet won't know... she was recovering from surgery inside the house... it was August.... too hot to bring her outside

  • The motor is a sealed type.... but it was nasty on the outside... it still ran smoothly and didn't heat up when tested on the bench.... OK! OK!... on the dinette table being used as my parts test bench.

  • My first thought was to clean everything.... I was using tape to protect the platic parts while I used a wire bruch and some "cleaner, neutralizer"

  • Back to my problem... August of 2014 repaired

    Electrical contacts were corroded

I cleaned them but the circuit boards were "iffy"
