2015 Chevy 3500 vs Ford 350 diesels

Both are excellent trucks and Ford with its current engine is very reliable and on par with the GM trucks. Both have excellent transmissions as well.
In general terms I prefer the exhaust braking and Allison transmission setup with the GM trucks as it is better integrated and performs better. I also like the IFS with the GM that provides better handling and manuevering. The Ford truck is also a lot heavier than the GM truck and this does not help handling either.
If you like the interior of the Ford truck then go for it as the rest is not going to be all that important to you. I think the Ford truck looks pimped out but that is my taste and most people like the Ford interior.
For your trailer load though a diesel is overkill. A gas V-8 with 4.10 gears is all that is needed along with the towing options.
With Ford I would be very careful when getting the options packages as Ford provides three times as many options packages and I found it very confusing as to what I would actually get with each one - and the people at the Ford dealership could not tell me either.
