I'm pulling an 8200 GVW 5th wheel with my 2500. However mine is gas with a stickered payload of 2831 lbs. When I bought the 2015 in July of 2014 I bought the one with the highest payload rating on the lot. If I remember right, the highest payload I saw on the lot for a duramax equipped 2500 crew cab 4x4 was just shy of 2300 lbs. No dealers around me had a 3500 on the lot and didn't for several weeks later, otherwise I would have one.
Like I stated in my post on page one, I'm happy with mine. If I had a Travel Trailer and had no inkling to ever get a 5th wheel, I would go with a diesel in the 250/2500 class. If you decide you might want a 5th wheel and still want a diesel, jump up to the 350/3500 class because of the payload capacity.
