Yes both the gas and deiesel will pull it. The gas will strugge a lot in hilly/mountainous terrain. The diesel will not, at least not nearly as much. I had a 2009 GMC 2500HD 6.0L gasser and it sucked big time pulling up the west side of the continental divide. Turning 4500 rpm and barely pulling 45 mph. The 5ver is at 10,500 lb loaded. I traded for a 2013 GMC 2500HD diesel and it's night and day difference. From Kansas to Arizona the gasser down shifted every 10 miles seems like. The diesel never down shifted once between Wichita and Holbrook, AZ.
