The weight savings and safety features are the big advancements. Put me in the camp of the other posters that the small turbocharged engines are not a selling point. They are equaled in power & fuel economy by competitors.
Kind of surprised that they are staying with a 6 speed transmission and that they aren't offering a small diesel.
They are pushing the envelope forward more than the new Silverado.
I haven't seen any official power or fuel economy numbers for the '15 F150 so I'm not sure how you can say they are equaled by competitors.
I don't believe there is a large market for a 1/2 ton diesel if a equivalent gas engine can make the same fuel economy for a lot less investment and $0.60/gallon cheaper fuel at the pump.
Stay tuned...
Valid points, but I am comparing the existing 3.5 EB engine to those of current competitors. Be it in 150/1500 form, or in Taurus form, the Ecoboost does not have significatly more power or any better MPG than a Chevy 5.3 or Hemi 5.7. Perhaps that will change with more gears with a future transmission, or the lighter weight chasis that the aluminum will provide.
I would agree if power & MPG are equal between a gasser and diesel, the gasser wins because of the additional premium of diesel.
And to be clear, overall with the weight savings and improved safety features, this is a clear step forward. The consumer will be rewarded in the end, wether they are a Ford, Chevy, or RAM buyer.
