If you don't want to buy a Ram eco diesel then don't. The Eco Diesel fills a niche, just as Chrysler designed it to. The vast majority of half tons no matter the capacity are sold as passenger vehicles with a utility component,(the bed). Do you remember in the '70's the only multi door trucks were special spec military or government fleet? Now a days a two door pickup is almost as rare as a 4 door was then.
If you are looking for a towing or loadbearing platform, you will look for the proper tool.
Just a side note, My wifes Nissan Juke has a 1200 pound limit
